Message from the 6th ASH

ASH members, colleagues, friends, and my dear students!

It is a great honor to serve as the 6th president of our society. As you all know, over the past 25 years, I have seen how our society has grown immensely. It began with the Aquatic Entomological Societies in East Asia (AESEA: 1998-2008) which was later followed by the Benthological Society of Asia (BSA: 2009-2022). This year, we have successfully reformed our society as the Asian Society for Hydrobiology (ASH: 2023-present). As we know, all this great progress would not have been possible without the sincere love and devotion from our society members. We must also remember the great contributions from our former presidents, Prof. Tanida Kazumi, Prof. Tae Soo Chon, Prof. Viktor Bogatov, Prof. Xinhua Wang, and Prof. Pradya Soomboon. As the 6th president, I will lead the development of hydrobiological sciences and its application in Asian countries, a goal that our society has long pursued.

As we can see, however, we are facing a changing world. New waves of changes are being introduced to diverse fields in hydrobiology. Various fields are being incorporated, such as artificial intelligence (AI), computer programming, and infrastructure. Amidst these changes, new technological advances combat problems arising from climate change and environmental degradation. Therefore, ""New Waves in Hydrobiology towards a Changing World"" has been chosen as the theme for the 6th Biannual ASH Conference Seoul 2024. The conference will be organized by the LOC members in Korea and will take place at Korea University in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from July 1 to 4, 2024. As the host of the conference, I and the LOC members warmly welcome you to attend the event, where you can meet experts from diverse fields of hydrobiology and forge new relationships from all over the world.

I look forward to seeing you all in Seoul in July 2024!

ASH President, Yeon Jae Bae
