The 4th International Symposium on Aquatic Entomology Societies in East Asia
(4th AESEA) 5-8 January 2009, Khon Kaen, Thailand

Introduction

The Symposium of the Aquatic Entomology societies in East Asia (AESEA) was initiated after the discussion between a group of Korean and Japanese aquatic entomologists at the annual meeting of the Japanese Society of Aquatic Entomology in September, 1998. After that and a few meetings among Korean, Japanese, Chinese entomologists and those from other East Asian countries, the First AESEA Meeting was successfully organized in Chiaksan, Korea, during May 17-20, 2000. The Second Symposium was held during November 1-4, 2002 at Asahi near Nagoya, Japan and the Third Symposium during June 17-20, 2005 at Nankai University, China. For this Symposium, it is a great honor for the Department of Biology and the Applied Taxonomic Research Center of Khon Kaen University, the Commission on Higher Education, Ministry of Education and the Science Society of Thailand under the Patronage of His Majesty the King (northeastern branch) to have the opportunity to hold the Fourth Symposium during January 5-8, 2009 at Chareon Thani Princess Hotel, Khon Kaen, Thailand. This Symposium provides an excellent opportunity for aquatic entomologists to share and exchange their scientific and professional experiences. It is hoped that this Symposium will further strengthen the relationship and close international collaborations among fellow aquatic entomologists around the world.
